At least one sorry aspect of this whole terrible ordeal may be that this same type of thing has been happening almost daily for several years now in Iraq and only in the last year has most of America given a damn. Yes, I’m somewhat bitter toward the Johnny-come-latelies to the cause of peace in the Middle East.

That aside, there is still of course the aftermath of Virginia Tech. One can only wonder what might drive a person to such madness. It is the rare individual who hasn’t had suicidal thoughts of some kind during his or her life, but rarely do people act on it because the sun comes up the next day and the pain—whatever it is—begins to gradually fade. I don’t know who this shooter was, but here’s my guess: Enormous personal pain and a loner with no social network to help relieve the pressure.

As for the victims and their families: prayers.
