I turned 40 today. I don’t know what to make of it especially. Looking back at the last 10 years I can hardly complain. I’ve either accomplished everything I intended or I will in the next few months. (Here I’m thinking of my forthcoming album.)

I am so blessed when it comes to family and friends. Jonah, Elisha and Jillian have changed my life in unexpected ways — I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to help them grow.

Almost 20 years now with Erin — almost half my life. So many of my successes — maybe all of them nowadays — flow from and through our relationship.

Dear friends remain dear. I’ve been so lucky to be the beneficiary of your friendship and wisdom.

It has not been all wine and roses. I will say that the body is creaking more than it used to. This past year particularly I’ve noticed a loss of flexibility that’s impacted my athletic pursuits. Nonetheless, my old friend and soccer pal Sal Chavez is right: Play as long as you can because someday you won’t be able to. God willing I’ll be playing sports until I drop.

I’ve gotten good at problem-solving in the last 10 years. Specifically, I’ve discovered how to break problems into their component tasks and move solutions forward. This has proved a huge boon to my productivity and sure beats the old days of staring at a “to-do” list of inactionable items.

What will the next 10 years hold? Financial independence as we get the house paid off. A lot more soccer, tennis, basketball and swimming. A family year in France. The continued growth of my Mac consulting business. And music. Barring the unforeseen I’ll be on iTunes later this year.

I don’t know if 40 is the new 20 or not, but in many ways I feel like I’m in the prime of life. It’s hard not to love that.

Thank you all.
