Douglas Murray: How a Gay Cruise Got Stuck Between Islam and the West:
There was a moment after the victories of the various civil rights movements of the past century when Western activists might have decided to turn their attention toward countries that foster none of the rights we do in the West. Women’s rights movements might have chosen to focus their energies on countries where women are at best, second-class citizens and at worst, chattel. Anti-racism campaigners might have spent their attention on countries in the Islamic world in which people with fairer skin are treated as an elite, and those with darker skin are regarded as slaves. Activists seeking reparations for slavery might have focused on real, modern-day slavery. And gay-rights activists might have decided to spend their energies trying to convince the dozens of countries in which homosexuality remains a crime, or the dozen or so countries in which it is punishable by death, to change their laws and stop the executions.
Instead, the Western rights movements largely chose to focus on encouraging mastectomies on minors, abortion rights up to the month of delivery, pronouns, micro-aggressions, and the addition of ever more letters and categories to the LGBT alphabet soup. While Western activists were focused on micro-aggressions, they ignored the macro-aggressions being practiced on their counterparts in other countries.
When I say that the leftwing is at least as unhinged as the Trumpian rightwing, this is what I mean.
