Daniel Radcliffe ‘really sad’ about J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans rhetoric | CNN:
Radcliffe released a statement via The Trevor Project shortly after Rowling’s posts in 2020.
“Transgender women are women,” he wrote in his statement. “Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either [Rowling] or I.”
Setting aside my feelings of contempt for The Trevor Project (who willfully mislead and misrepresent), Radcliffe is of course wholly wrong. Transgender women are biological men. No expertise is required to understand this basic science. One can be both compassionate toward those suffering the serious mental illness of gender dysphoria while still acknowledging reality. This is in fact Rowling position, and mine as well.
