• Music on the virtual turntable: Destiny and In the Waiting Line by Zero 7 from their album Simple Things. (Give It Away isn’t bad either.) Available at the iTunes Music Store.

In the Waiting Line
Wait in line
‘Till your time
Ticking clock
Everyone stop

Everyone’s saying different things to me
Different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me
Different things to me

Do you believe
In what you see
There doesn’t seem to be anybody else who agrees with me

Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe in
What you see

Nine to five
Living lies
Everyday
Stealing time
Everyone’s taking everything they can
Everything they can
Everyone’s taking everything they can
Everything they can

Do you believe
In what you feel
It doesn’t seem to be anybody else who agrees with me

Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
In what you see

And I’ll shout and I’ll scream
But I’d rather not have seen
And I’ll hide away for another day

Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
In what you see

Everyone’s saying different things to me
Different things to me…
Everyone’s taking everything they can
Everything they can

• I watched Garden State this afternoon while Jonah slept. It’s a quirky little film with Zach Braff (of Scrubs) and Natalie Portman. It doesn’t quite have the depth or heft that one would hope despite trying hard, but it’s reasonably funny and well-made. I suspect that, lacking the teen and 20-something angst that’s so popular nowadays, I’m outside the target audience. I thought it an interesting and noble effort nonetheless. Recommended.

• I’m generally the skeptic when it comes to operating system upgrades. I don’t have any idea how big Apple’s beta testing pool is, but the fact that every system upgrade carries with it flaws and incompatibilities doesn’t exactly make me want to rush out and be the guinea pig. Will Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger” be worth the upgrade? You bet, but if you’re thinking about putting anything before 10.4.1 on an essential or production machine, you got more courage or fewer brain cells (take your pick) than yours truly. Of course as soon as 10.4.1 is out the door, sign me up because I think Tiger is gonna be awesome.
