Wouldn’t it be great…

...if you could automatically go from looking at a book on Amazon.com (or Borders) to seeing if your local public library has a copy? Well your prayers have been answered with Jon Udell's LibraryLookup Bookmarklet Generator. I'm betting that at least a few of my friends (hi Ginger!) will think this is terrific. (The Chemeketa Library system uses...

The Lilly visit

Bernard and Liz, Erin's folks, stayed with us for the last 10 days, arriving the day before Jillian's birth and leaving yesterday. Having them here was extraordinarily helpful in easing our transition from two kids to chaos. Not only did their presence help make the birth experience easier for us, it also allowed us to move forward on our remodeling...

This Brit’s got talent anyway

Other than The Amazing Race, I'm not a big fan of reality TV. But I will say that this YouTube clip from Britain's Got Talent is something to see. It's the first live performance of Paul Potts, a cell phone salesman from Wales, who wants to sing opera. Potts is awkward and dumpy, not particularly handsome and carries on the long British tradition of having...

Jillian and Mom are coming home!

Checkout time today is 1 PM. Both Erin and baby are doing great. Jillian is sleeping a lot, eating some, and looking at us quizzically from time to time. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there. I hope your special day is as good as mine.

Circumcision

We didn't have to think about circumcision with Jillian obviously (because in that case it's also frequently called female genital mutilation), but that hasn't stopped me from thinking about the topic generally. If you've not read my 2003 essay on the subject ("You're Cutting My What?!?"), you can get my full opinion there. The latest evidence from the...

We’re wondering too

After the exciting and exhausting 1 AM to 4 AM Monday night adventure at Salem Hospital, we expected Baby #3 would be kicking down the doors (so to speak) to enter the real world. But our expectations seem to have been misguided. Erin's had nary a contraction since then, and we've just busied ourselves with a regular day-to-day routine while we wait....

Baby #3-Update

We are headed to the hospital. Updates to follow. We arrived at Salem hospital a little after 1 AM with Erin at 3 CM and baby at minus three station. After three hours of poking, prodding, contractions and walking around, we left Salem Hospital with Erin at 3 CM and baby at minus three station. So...false alarm. Despite last night's increasingly strong...

Back to back

I'm fairly confident in saying that what with the birth of our third child likely coming in the next week and what with me playing some of the best soccer I have in years, that now is a really lousy time for me to throw out my back. But there it is. At Tuesday night's soccer scrimmage about 30 minutes in -doink-. I had a hastily arranged session with my...

Baby #3 getting down with it

News from today's doctor appointment: Baby's head is down. Erin's 50% effaced, 1 cm dilated, and contractions (albeit mild to the point Erin doesn't notice them) are happening. Odds are good we've got less than a week to go. Stay tuned.
