No regrets
I was editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper. I was the Assistant News Editor of my college paper, named an All-American paper (whatever that means), during my freshman year at UP. I was an editorial columnist for the same paper as a senior. And I do not regret forgoing a career in journalism. Indeed, I am frequently reminded, as I was again...
Like we couldn’t see that coming
News item: Rutgers women's basketball coach to write autobiography Let me tell you this "nappy-headed hos" comment, an insult so vile that somehow every major media publication has seen fit to reprint it (unlike if Imus had used the N word or dropped an F bomb), is the gift that just keeps on giving. The most priceless quote of the story is from team...

See which character you are. I'm Boba Fett.
Virginia Tech
At least one sorry aspect of this whole terrible ordeal may be that this same type of thing has been happening almost daily for several years now in Iraq and only in the last year has most of America given a damn. Yes, I'm somewhat bitter toward the Johnny-come-latelies to the cause of peace in the Middle East. That aside, there is still of course the...
Lawdy, lawdy
Now I've gone and done it. I agree with Pat Buchanan on the Imus mess. (Well, all except the part where he calls Imus "among the best interviewers in our business." I've not listened to him often enough to know that, just enough to know I didn't want to listen any more.)
More on Don Imus
Fired from his MSNBC and CBS gigs now. Rev. DeForest Soaries, the Rutgers coach's pastor and the person in charge of negotiating the meeting between Imus and the Rugers team said of Imus' firing: "This removes the burden from the Rutgers women to determine the status of Imus' employment." Am I alone in wondering why Imus' employment should be up to them? I...
In defense of…Don Imus?
I can't stand Don Imus. He's in the pantheon of talk radio personalities who are either so bigoted (Michael Savage) or so stupid (Lars Larson) that I can't stomach the idiocy which he spews. So when he called the Rutgers Women's basketball team a bunch of nappy-headed hos last week, I wasn't exactly tuned in, nodding to myself, saying, "You tell'em, Don."...
Another story, which should surprise no one, of people getting it wrong
What if beauty intruded on your humdrum, monotonous, grey little world? Would you be alive enough to even see it? Peals Before Breakfast by Gene Weingarten of the Washington Post.
The two car family
We sold our 1997 Lexus ES 300 on Friday night for $7,000 in cash. (Literally. Lots of $100 bills and a few $50s for good measure. I've never held so much paper currency.) We don't need three cars, and the Lexus was clear the one to sell since it got the worst mileage (19/25 but premium gas) and was worth the most money. We'll use the money to finish off...
Sunday at the Kann’s
In the midst of our remodeling, we took a day off to go see Susan (up from Arizona), visit with friends, and get the tour of the Kann's new home. It short: Great times. Loved seeing the new place, loved seeing everybody, and loved watching all the kids play together. It is times like these that I cherish.
