We saw Joe, Carol, and Ella last weekend here in Salem. Joe and Ella had been suffering from colds which prevented an earlier introduction to Elisha. Now happily recovered, they kindly made the journey down from Battle Ground to meet and greet and hangout. Good times! Erin's folks arrived on Saturday for an extended visit. Yesterday, they took Jonah to...
The Return of Moo Ha-Ha
The USDA confirmed more Mad Cow in the US today. Long-time readers are well aware of my utter contempt for the work and policies of the USDA, but newbies to the site may wish to understand what has led me to such rancor. Let's have a little Q&A, shall we? Q: Where in the US was the cow from? A: "Officials would not specify where the case turned up...."...

One week along
Baby Elisha (rhymes with "militia"—Haha) is sleeping and pooping just like she's supposed to. Erin's up with her typically twice a night for feedings, about as good as one could expect. Indeed, everything in this first week has gone so smoothly and so unexpectedly well that I'll probably get hit by a car tomorrow just to bring my karma back into...

It's not what you think. After years of faithful service, my trusty Canon PowerShot S300 Digital Elph has yielded its crown as Number 1 Camera in our household. When I bought it in May 2001, it was the smallest, lightest 2.1 Megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera available. At the time I paid $550 for the camera, $110 for 128 MB Flashcard and, $63 for...
God is glorious: Q&A
Elisha is a very pretty name, but I've never heard of it before. Where'd it come from? Elisha was the Old Testament prophet who succeeded Elijah. The name itself means "God is glorious," which is a fair summation of our feelings on the subject. It's relatively uncommon, ranking 449 for girls out of the top thousand names in the 1980s. The most famous...
Elisha Jeanne Davison—Updated
We are happy and proud to announce the birth of Elisha Jeanne Davison, at 12:03 PM today. Weight: 7 lbs. 2 oz, 20" long. She's a keeper! I am happy to report that labor and deliver was short, relatively painless—a phrase that always gets us guys in hot water—and trouble-free. Mother and child are both doing very, very well. When we checked in...
Baby Davison #2—Updated
Although she was up using the bathroom quite a bit during the night, Erin's contractions reduced enough in frequency and severity for her to get some sleep. Jonah and I got some sleep, too, which is wonderful. At this point (6:18 AM) the contractions are about 9 minutes apart and stronger than they were last night. Erin's not going into school today and...
One sure thing
Erin started having contractions this evening while I was off at soccer in Bush Park. "Poppers" came over around and hung out with Jonah while she laid down. When I rolled in around 8:15 PM, she was having them between 3-5 minutes apart, but then they backed off. She's sleeping now (10:12 PM) as is Jonah, so we'll see where this leaves us. If I have time...
Sideways
WARNING: Spoilers for the movie Sideways may follow. It's been hailed as the "Indie film that could" by a great many folks, and it has its moments to be sure, but I came away conflicted from my viewing of Sideways, a tale of two friends, Miles and Jack, who embark on a week-long getaway through the Napa wine country. On the plus side, Paul Giamatti's...
